newborn hearing screening

To facilitate access to hearing care, our mobile audiologists offer at home newborn hearing screening test services for infants aged 0 to 9 months. The hearing test is administered by certified audiologists, members of the OOAQ. In the comfort of the patients’ home, the audiologist does the hearing assessment and emits a personalized intervention plan based on the patients’ communication and hearing care needs.

During the newborn hearing screening test, a probe is inserted inside the newborn’s ear canal which sends sounds to the cochlea and measures the otoacoustic emissions produced by the external hair cells. It is very important to perform the test in a quiet environment because the presence of noise (movement, suction noise, and cries) can affect the responses measured. Normal readings allow us to rule out important hearing losses.
